Privacy Policy — Quick Translate
- Extension: Quick Translate (轻译浮窗), version 1.1.0
- Publisher: BB8DEV
- Contact: bb8dev@outlook.com
- Effective date: 2026-10-11
1. What is processed
Quick Translate translates text you explicitly select. A translation request is sent only in response to your own action: choosing “Translate this selection” in the right-click menu, switching the target language in the bubble, or pressing Retry after a failed attempt. The extension then sends:
- the exact text you selected, and
- language parameters (source: auto-detect; your chosen target language)
to Google's web translation endpoint (https://translate.googleapis.com/translate_a/single) over HTTPS.
The extension itself does not add page URLs, page titles, cookies, credentials, browsing history, or identifiers to that request; the request is made with credentials: omit, so no Google login state or cookies are attached. However, as with any HTTPS request, the receiving service necessarily sees standard network information required to serve the request — in particular your IP address and the browser's standard request headers (such as the User-Agent). This policy does not claim otherwise.
2. Purpose and recipients
The selected text is sent to Google for the sole purpose of obtaining a translation, which is returned directly to your browser and shown in the bubble. The developer operates no server, receives none of this content, and cannot access it. This is different from saying “no data leaves the browser”: the selected text does leave your browser, directly to Google, whenever you trigger a translation.
3. What is stored, and for how long
On your device only:
- Your target-language preference — Chrome
storage.local; kept until you remove the extension or clear extension data. - A transient per-tab error code with a timestamp (used for the toolbar popup notice) — Chrome
storage.session; cleared when the tab closes or the browser exits.
The extension does not proactively write your selected text or translations to persistent storage or to any log, and contains no analytics, advertising, or telemetry. While the bubble is open, this content lives in the page's memory; like any web content, it is subject to the browser's own memory management and network caching, which the extension neither controls nor overrides, and no immediate memory erasure is promised. How Google handles the text it receives is described in §5.
Nothing is stored by the developer, because the developer has no infrastructure that receives this data.
4. Chrome Web Store limited use statement
In line with the Chrome Web Store program policies, user data handled by this extension (the text you choose to translate) is used only to provide the extension's core translation feature. It is not sold or transferred for other purposes, not used for interest-based advertising, and not retained by the developer beyond the in-memory processing described above.
5. Third-party service
Quick Translate is an independently developed extension; it is not an official Google product and is not endorsed by Google. Translations are provided by a free, unofficial Google web translation endpoint, which is not the Google Cloud Translation API. Use of the endpoint is subject to Google's privacy policy and terms. Google's own collection, retention, and sharing of requests it receives are governed by Google's policies, which this extension cannot change or guarantee; this policy makes no claims about how long Google retains translated text. The endpoint may be rate-limited, changed, or become unavailable at any time.
6. Your choices
- Stop processing: simply stop triggering translations; nothing is sent otherwise. Removing the extension ends all processing.
- Clear local data: remove the extension at
chrome://extensionsto clear the preferences the extension has saved. Session error data is also removed when the tab closes or the browser exits. Clearing browsing history or browser cache is not required and does not specifically target these settings. - Contact: bb8dev@outlook.com for privacy questions or requests.
7. Hosting note
This policy page is hosted by GitHub Pages. Hosting providers keep their own server logs (for example, IP addresses of page visitors); that logging is operated by the host, is outside this extension's control, and is separate from the extension's behavior described above.
8. Changes
Material changes to this policy will be reflected in an extension update and in the effective date above. The effective date only changes when the policy is actually revised and published.
